Natural Resource Management

In our pursuit to minimize operational impacts, Analeng prioritizes critical issues such as spills, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, water, and waste management. These environmental concerns are managed through a unified approach governed by general and specific Group regulations, with regular reporting to management. Detailed management strategies are outlined in the sections on Energy Efficiency, Spills Management, and Water Management.

Our environmental topics in detail

Analeng is dedicated to minimizing disruptions to protected areas and local ecosystems. Our activities adhere to the Analeng Group Environmental Management Standard and the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Procedure. We conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments and screenings to identify and address potential impacts on biodiversity and ecosystems. Our approach emphasizes avoiding and minimizing impacts over restoration, with action plans developed for significant concerns.

Adherence to environmental regulations is crucial for Analeng’s operations and reputation. We ensure compliance with national and international environmental laws through the Analeng Group Environmental Management Standard. This includes developing compliance databases, aligning with best practices, and establishing programs to prevent non-compliance. Our standard mandates assessments of environmental impacts and adherence to performance requirements across various areas, including energy use, emissions, and waste management.

Environmental risks, including regulatory, operational, reputational, and financial aspects, are integral to Analeng’s Enterprise-Wide Risk Management (EWRM). We use digital technologies, such as the Active Risk Manager System (ARMS), to monitor and manage environmental risks, integrating them with other HSSE and business risks. Risks are assessed both top-down and bottom-up, ensuring comprehensive management from local to strategic levels. Before initiating new activities or entering new markets, we conduct thorough environmental risk assessments.

Analeng’s operations significantly impact water resources, with substantial water use in Upstream and Downstream activities. We implement a comprehensive Water Strategy focused on transparency, risk management, efficiency, training, and stakeholder engagement. Our goals include reducing water consumption, improving water efficiency, and treating wastewater appropriately. Our strategy, established in 2014, supports effective water management practices.

Oil spills present a critical environmental challenge. Analeng’s spill management approach includes prevention, control, and remediation. We implement hazard identification, risk management, preventive measures, and emergency response plans. Spills are promptly assessed and cleaned up according to internal procedures, with immediate repairs conducted based on risk assessments and operational feasibility. We regularly perform emergency drills to enhance our response capabilities.

Analeng generates both solid and liquid waste, including hazardous materials such as oily sludge, waste chemicals, and construction debris. Our waste management practices ensure the proper handling and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, supporting environmental sustainability and compliance with regulatory requirements.
