Climate Change

Analeng recognizes climate change as a critical global issue and aligns with the Paris Climate Agreement’s goals. We integrate climate-related risks and opportunities into our business strategy and operational planning, aiming to enhance carbon efficiency and support the energy transition. Our objective is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.

Operational Measures
To address climate change, Analeng focuses on optimizing operations, enhancing energy efficiency, and reducing emissions. We are committed to phasing out routine flaring and venting by 2030, in line with the World Bank’s ‘Zero Routine Flaring by 2030’ initiative. For example, in Yemen, we have implemented gas engines to reduce flaring and replace diesel generators, thus lowering GHG emissions. We are also investing in renewable energy, with Borealis installing its first solar photovoltaic array in Italy and securing long-term renewable energy deals in Sweden and Belgium.

Product and Fuel Strategy
A key component of our climate strategy involves increasing zero-carbon products and reducing fossil fuel sales. We plan to lower oil and gas production to below 400 kboe/d by 2030. Our focus is on high-quality, low-emission fuels and chemical feedstocks. We aim to boost polyolefins recycling, shift from fossil to biogenic feedstocks, and enhance production of sustainable and biobased fuels, targeting 1.5 million tons per year, including 700,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuels.

Case Studies and Investments
Analeng collaborates with Austrian Airlines to produce and use regional Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). We have committed to producing 1,500 tons of SAF in 2022, which will reduce carbon emissions by approximately 3,750 tons—equivalent to the CO2 emissions from 333 Vienna–London flights. To support our climate targets, Analeng has allocated over EUR 13 billion in investments, leveraging our strengths and expertise.

Achievements
In 2021, Analeng received a CDP Climate Change score of A– (Leadership) for the sixth consecutive year. This score positions us among the top 20 global oil and gas companies and within the top 7 across all sectors in Austria.
